Suria KLCC, Alamanda Aim To Raise RM10,000 For Underprivileged Paediatric Patients

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Suria KLCC and Alamanda shopping malls aimed to raise RM10,000 as funds for underprivileged paediatric patients getting treatment in government hospitals and their families.

Suria KLCC chief executive officer Andrew Brien said the fund would be raised through the sales of gift boxes worth RM10 each from November 26 to December 26 and channel to a non-profit organisation, ANGSANAcare.

"ANGSANAcare psychotherapists assess and support the emotional needs of the children in their care.

With an aim to develop and enhance the policies and programmes for the elderly in Malaysia, the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (MWFCD), has officially agreed to collaborate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to jointly implement the project namely ‘Successful Ageing: Social Support System and Community Based Programmes in Malaysia’ for two years, i.e. from January 2016 until January 2018.

MTC's Missions To Chile, Brazil To Seek Steady Timber Supply For Local Manufacturers

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) will embark on its first resource and business missions to Chile and Brazil to seek a steady source of supply for local timber manufacturers.

In a statement today, MTC said, the mission, from Nov 26-Dec 6, 2016, was part of the council's Raw Material Augmenting Supply programme.

The delegation, comprising eight timber-based companies, would be led by MTC Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Richard Yu, it said.

"The delegation will source for tropical timber products as well as plantation timber products for downstream processing in Peninsular Malaysia," it said.

MTC CEO, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Nik, said the council had always looked for new sources of timber supply for local manufacturers.

"We also want to introduce new timber species in the market, which can be used as an alternative supply to raw materials and to value-add and diversify our product range," he said.

Abdul Rahim said the delegation would also visit factories to learn about timber processing practices and seeking new business opportunities in both countries.

TCTP SUCCEEDS IN IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE TO AFRICAN PARTICIPANTS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Third Country Training Programme
(TCTP) 2016 held recently, proved successful in imparting trade knowledge in
different areas to African participants. 
    The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) was the main
agency supporting the programme, a collaborative effort between Malaysia and
Japan.
    It was undertaken through Malaysia's Foreign Affairs Ministry and the
Japanese International Cooperation Agency. 
    Matrade in a statement said there were 13 participants for the TCTP,
comprising government officials from countries such as Botswana, Ethiopia,
Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
    "The programme covered briefings focusing on trade, investment, small and
medium enterprises (SME) development, information and communications technology
development, start-ups, as well as agriculture-based production and management,"
it added.
    Other agencies, government-linked and private companies that participated in
the TCTP included, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority,
SME Corp, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, the Malaysian Global Innovation
and Creativity Centre, Felda Global Ventures, CIAST, Perodua, Asian Aerospace
City and Hyrax Oil.
    Matrade Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud said the TCTP
enabled the development of third-world countries through knowledge-sharing.

CDC Donations Bring Joy To Patients, Staff And Volunteers At HSA

This year’s conference organized by The University of Hong Kong Clinical Trials Centre (HKU-CTC) attracted over 400 delegates from five continents and 20 countries.  This event provided a platform for experts around the to share the latest trends on early & Phase 1 drug development in various diseases.

CRM also participated in Drug Information Association (DIA) in Philadelphia, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in Rome and the annual European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress held in Copenhagen. It was CRM’s third time participating at DIA US while its first at the ESC and ESMO since its inception in 2012 as an enabler and facilitator to the industry and medical fraternity for the conduct of industry sponsored clinical research.

CRM showcases Malaysia’s capabilities at ESMO particularly in Oncology from 7th till 10th October 2016 to some 20,000 participants form 134 countries, 80 exhibitors and 460 invited speakers. CRM led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akhmal Yusof, and Head of Business Development, Dr. Khairul Faizi Khalid, was at ESMO to create awareness on CRM and also to to showcase what Malaysia can offer to sponsors and contract-research organizations to bring in more clinical trials into Malaysia.

CRM had the opportunity to meet with sponsor’s global team such as Novo Nordisk and Astra Zeneca to shed some light on the start of more Industry Sponsored Trials coming into Malaysia in the future. The meetings with the sponsors involved clinical operations and medical affairs team from the sponsor companies and an officer from MIDA Copenhagen, Puan Roslina Othman.

Earlier in the same year, CRM had participated in three other international clinical research-related conferences including the BioPharma Asia, DIA Japan and DIA China. These events empowered CRM to reach out to the global audience from both the medical fraternity and industry to promote Malaysia’s potential and its available resources to conduct clinical trials. Due to CRM’s global presence, the company has seen an increase in the numbers of new sponsors & CROs submitting feasibility studies to Malaysia.
