CISCO APPDYNAMICS LAUNCHES NEW RESEARCH, REVEALING UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND FOR FULL-STACK OBSERVABILITY WITH BUSINESS CONTEXT

 News Summary:

  • AppDynamics releases Agents of Transformation 2021:The Rise of Full-Stack Observability, the latest edition of its global research study.
  • 75 percent of global technologists report that the pandemic has created more IT complexity than ever before.
  • 96 percent of technologists recognize that the ability to monitor all technical areas across their IT stack and directly link that performance to business outcomes is now essential.
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 24 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- AppDynamics, a part of Cisco, today released Agents of Transformation 2021:The Rise of Full-Stack Observability, the latest edition of its global research study, exploring the impact of the rapid acceleration of digital transformation created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the repercussions for global technologists. The findings reveal a dramatic increase in IT complexity caused by the need for urgent innovation - and the resulting technology sprawl. The research also validates a pressing need for full-stack observability with added business context to help technologists manage the IT estate, cut through the data 'noise' and observe what matters most to their business.

The shift to digital-first business models to weather the storm and minimize the commercial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, has placed technologists at the forefront of their organizations’ response. According to this research, this forced a 3X acceleration1 of digital transformation projects. Unsurprisingly, technologists found themselves under considerable strain, with 89 percent2 reportedly feeling under immense pressure at work and 84 percent3 admitting to having difficulty switching off. Furthermore, many technologists expressed feeling frustrated about work (81 percent)4 and experiencing increased levels of conflict with colleagues (63 percent).5

The new research goes on to highlight that rapid digital transformation has added staggering technical complexity throughout IT departments, with technologists listing the following factors as key contributors:
  • A new set of priorities and challenges (80 percent).6
  • Technology sprawl and a patchwork of legacy and cloud technologies (78 percent).7
  • Acceleration to cloud computing (77 percent).8
  • Multiple, disconnected monitoring solutions (74 percent). 9
This rise in IT complexity has significantly increased the amount of data created across the technology stack, from the application, through the infrastructure to the network and security. With this added complexity, 85 percent of technologists state that quickly cutting through noise caused by the ever-increasing volumes of data to identify root causes of performance issues will represent a significant challenge in the year ahead.10 With 75 percent of those polled stating they are already struggling to manage overwhelming ‘data noise’11, technologists are desperate for a unified solution to enable real-time visibility across the entire IT estate.
  • 95 percent of technologists say having visibility across the whole IT estate is important.12
  • 96 percent point to negative consequences of not having visibility and insights across the whole tech stack.13

Pacific Prime Report Unveils Health Insurance Premium Decrease In Some Countries

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Pacific Prime’s latest report examines international private medical insurance (IPMI) premiums in 100 locations, finding that a number of locations’ IPMI premiums have decreased for both individuals and families.

According to a statement from the global health insurance brokerage, this is due to a number of key factors, chief among them being the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

Pacific Prime’s Cost of International Health Insurance Report 2020-2021 begins by ranking countries based on their average IPMI premiums.

The US takes the number one spot, with average premiums of US$7,703 for individuals and US$21,817 for families. At the bottom end of the spectrum, Thailand had the cheapest average premiums of US$1,934 for individuals and US$7,257 for families. (US$1 = RM4.040)

From the 100 locations studied, up to 36 countries showed a decrease in IPMI premiums, compared with the previous year, as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused people to avoid/delay seeking healthcare treatment, and countries to impose lockdown measures.

In addition to the overarching trend in IPMI premiums, the report also sheds light on region-specific trends including 12 out of 20 locations, with the costliest health insurance premiums located in the Americas.

Hong Kong has reclaimed its position as the second most expensive location in the world for health insurance. Similarly, Singapore is the second most expensive location in Asia.

Meanwhile, China’s health insurance premiums are going through a correction phase after years of increase, as a result of sluggish demand amidst a global economic downturn. The country’s insurance landscape is also witnessing digitalisation, as insurtech takes centrestage.

THE SUCCESSOR OF THE 600-YEAR-OLD "ORIENTAL CHOCOLATE" SEEKS INHERITANCE PATH IN HAIKOU

The worker pours the boiled brown sugar syrup into a mold and waits for it to be air-dried into sugar cubes.

HAIKOU, China, Feb. 8, 2021 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/ --

The Spring Festival, the most significant festival in Chinese culture, was just around the corner. Wu Qizhen, the 66-year-old successor of a traditional sugar-making technique included in the intangible cultural heritage list, was busy instructing workers to manufacture the brown sugar for the last "sweet" order before the festival on February 3.

Mr. Wu's brown sugar workshop was established in Zuntan Town, the south of Haikou, Hainan province. According to historical records, the traditional sugar-making industry has existed in Zuntan Town for over 600 years. The local sugarcane provides the raw material for the Zuntan brown sugar, which is manufactured through such procedures as juicing, boiling and solidifying. It is known as the "Oriental Chocolate" with high nutritional and medicinal value.

Mr. Wu told us that his brown sugar is made with an ancestral technique, including juice extraction, filtration, boiling and crystallization. The process of turning raw sugarcane juice into syrup takes about 8 to 12 hours. After the boiling, the syrup is poured into molds to get cubes after solidification and air-drying. Those sugar cube has the attractive shape and color of chocolate, but the taste is refreshingly sweet after it rapidly melts in the mouth.

According to Mr. Wu, the locals have regarded the traditional sugar-making technique as a sweet but hard-working skill with a low yield. Now, there are only five traditional sugar technique successors in Zuntan Town, all of whom are over 50 years old.

Mr. Wu's traditional brown sugar workshop has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage project in Haikou (at the provincial level). In addition to the traditional product portfolio of the ginger brown sugar, the rose brown sugar and jujube brown sugar, Mr. Wu planned to invent a new variety with Hainan characteristics, the coconut brown sugar. He also upgraded the production equipment in 2020, and began to train his son to be the sixth generation of traditional sugar technique successor. "Perhaps, there will be more people willing to learn the traditional art of sugar-making when the sugar workshop gains more growth," said Mr. Wu.

Toshiba 100V high-current photorelay for industrial equipment launched

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has launched ‘TLP241B’, a high-current photorelay in a DIP4 package for industrial equipment such as programmable logic controllers and I/O interfaces.

According to a statement, samples and production quantities are available now.

TLP241B has integrated MOSFET based on Toshiba’s latest generation of U-MOS process. With TLP241B, the OFF-state output terminal voltage is extended to 100V, a 150 per cent improvement from the 40V of the current TLP241A.

It is housed in a versatile DIP4 package, and is the industry’s first DIP4 packaged product to deliver 100V OFF-state output terminal voltage, 2A ON-state current and 5kV isolation voltage.

TLP241B can replace a 1-Form-A contact mechanical relay. Unlike mechanical relays, TLP241B has no moving contacts to degrade.

Its low current drive feature also improves product life. Other benefits are fast response time and PCB space saving due to smaller package size.

 TOKYO, Feb. 4, 2021 /Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/ --

- Designed and Supervised by World-famous Architect Kengo Kuma -

PROSTYLE INC. has announced the start of development of PROSTYLE Sapporo Miyanomori, a luxury residential complex set on high ground in the Miyanomori area of Chuo-ku, Sapporo. World-famous architect Kengo Kuma, who designed the complex, will supervise its development. PROSTYLE INC. is a group company of PROPOLIFE GROUP INC., which operates a range of real estate companies. It is headquartered in Tokyo's Minato district, and led by President Satoshi Oyamatsu.

- Architect Kengo Kuma's Wood-based Design Set to Make Residents Feel Truly at Home While Living Life of Luxury

PROSTYLE Sapporo Miyanomori owes its design to world-famous architect Kengo Kuma, known for his style that incorporates wooden architecture into modernistic designs, such as the Japan National Stadium and the JR East Takanawa Gateway Station. Meanwhile, PROSTYLE has specialized in the use of natural solid wood since its establishment. Together, Kuma and PROSTYLE aim to create a residence where residents can lead lives of luxury surrounded by wood.

Inspired by the nature-rich location of Miyanomori, the residential building will be constructed along the slope of a hill that provides a sweeping view of the Sapporo cityscape. With 11 stories, PROSTYLE Sapporo Miyanomori is designed as one large house made up of smaller individual residences. The warmth of the natural solid wood and the design of the architecture itself will make residents feel truly at home, unlike typical housing complexes.

Residents will experience the pleasure of being surrounded by wood with all five senses. The outer wall will be made with lavish amounts of thinned (*) Japanese cedar from Hokkaido, a type of wood known as Donan Sugi. The frames for the concrete will also use thinned wood. The complex has been designed with conservation of the local environment in mind, actively incorporating challenging techniques that would not be possible with a typical urban condominium building.

(*) Thinned wood is collected when thinning out trees that have clustered too close together during the growth process of a forest. Thinning helps prevent landslides and global warming.
