This annually held exhibition is part of the Keio Plaza Hotel’s Japanese cultural experience program and this year marks the sixth consecutive year that it will be held with the most renowned manufacturer “Hyozaemon”, which was founded in 1921. Japan’s traditional food culture is believed to be the only one in the world that uses only chopsticks, and the Keio Plaza Hotel seeks to demonstrate the beautiful tradition of Japanese chopsticks to guests. 4TH NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 2017 SLATED FOR NOV. 2-5

New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival 2017, an international animation film festival held in its entirety within the airport terminal building, is to be held from Thursday, November 2, to Sunday, November 5.

In this fourth edition of the festival, animation filmmakers, both Japanese and international, and fans communicate with one another through the internationally common culture of animation, to be shown at the three theaters in the airport.

An International competition, the main part of the animation festival, will show 44 works from 21 countries, which were selected from 2,037 works submitted from 85 countries and regions. The number of the films submitted showed an increase of about 800 works from last year.

There will also be special screenings. Masaaki Yuasa's "Lu Over the Wall" and "MIND GAME" as well as "Legend of the Galactic Heroes -- My Conquest is the Sea of Stars," a collection of works by Yuri Norstein known as animation master, will be shown in collaboration with "Bakuon (extremely loud) Screening" featuring the full blast of dynamic sound generated by speakers used for a live concert. There will be the live score screening of "A Silent Voice" by composer Kensuke Ushio. Moreover, "KUBO and the Two Strings" is to be screened during the festival in advance of its theatrical release in Japan.

Furthermore, at the Center Plaza, the main event space on the second floor of the domestic terminal building, there will be exhibitions and workshops, featuring Indie Games.

DAIWA HOUSE FINALIZES OUTLINE OF DMLP PHASE I -- 2, LARGE-SCALE MULTI-TENANCY LOGISTICS FACILITY, IN INDONESIA

An outline has been finalized for PT Daiwa Manunggal Logistik Properti, a joint venture between Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd., and PT Bekasi Fajar Industrial Estate Tbk. (BEST), which is involved in the development and infrastructure of industrial estates in Indonesia. In line with this, work commenced on DMLP Phase I -- 2, a large-scale multi-tenancy logistics facility, in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia, on October 2, 2017.

Daiwa House Industry participated in the planning of MM2100 Industrial Estate, an industrial estate business that was developed by BEST in Bekasi in February 2013. The company began to develop that area as Daiwa Manunggal MM2100 Industrial Estate (with a total development area of about 1,450 ha (*1)). It also managed the development of DMLP Phase I -- 1, Indonesia's first multi-tenancy logistics facility. The logistics facility (*2) was equipped with freezing and chilling capabilities for cold chain (*3) storage and factory rental space, which was limited in Indonesia. On this occasion, the company began work on DMLP Phase I -- 2, which is the second stage of its multi-tenancy logistics facility in Indonesia, on October 2, 2017.

In the future, Daiwa House Industry will combine the managerial resources its group possesses, including its knowledge of building surveying, designing and construction as well as building management and administration. It is making efforts to attract businesses from Japan and around the world which are considering logistics facilities overseas, and plans to expand the development of logistics facilities to meet the needs of clients.

1. The Customer

The Asian USD bond market (represented by the JP Morgan Asia Credit Index) reported a gain of 0.94% in August. The positive performance was driven  by lower US Treasury (UST) yields as Asian credit spreads were range-bound. During the month, UST yields fell as renewed geopolitical tensions with North Korea and political uncertainty in the US supported "safe haven" bids for US Treasuries. The rising risk of fiscal brinkmanship in the US had raised concerns over a potential breach in the debt  ceiling, and  consequently, government shutdown. Lacklustre inflation prints, as well as a lack of insight on the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) policy outlook from Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen during the Jackson Hole symposium further kept a lid on UST yields. 10-year UST yields closed the month lower by 18bps.

The high yield sector outperformed the investment grade sector over the month. High yield sovereign bonds led the charge, with Sri Lankan  and Mongolian sovereign bonds driving the outperformance. High yield corporates also held up well, led by Chinese high yield  property developers following better-than-expected corporate earnings announcements. Within the investment grade space, Korean bonds weighed on performance across sectors, particularly in  the corporate space. On the other hand, investment grade sovereign and quasi-sovereign bonds turned  in decent returns  over the month as their long duration profiles benefited from the fall in UST yields.

Asian USD bonds have had a decent showing over the year-to-date period. Yield-seeking behavior was strong in Asia as investors generally brushed  off macroeconomic and geopolitical concerns  globally. Treasury return was also supported by declines in longer term UST yields on the back of soft inflation numbers. Investor demand  for yield  helped  to prop up the performance of high yield  sovereign bonds which  outperformed over the year. This was followed by investment grade sovereign bonds, which was driven  higher by Indonesia following its sovereign rating upgrade by S&P. Corporate bonds also held up well, with high yield corporate bonds outperforming investment grade corporate bonds over the year-to-date period.

IKIM Publishes Book To Fend Off Pluralistic Beliefs

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The book, 'Kenapa Islam: Menyanggah Pegangan Kaum Pluralis' (Why Islam: Refuting the Beliefs of Pluralists) published by the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) can be a guide to fend off attempts by certain quarters attempting to erode the confidence of Muslims regarding fundamental issues in the Islamic faith.

IKIM's Syariah Studies, Law and Politics Centre director Dr Mohd Farid Shahran said the publication of the book was timely, as religion and inter-religious relations within Malaysia's plural society had become an endless polemic.

He said although different communities had been living in harmony for so long, problems began arising when certain parties subtly used the diversity as a 'weapon' to undermine the Muslim's beliefs, trapping them with the concept of pluralism.

"In the context of ethnic and religious diversity, we cannot escape the issue of religious tolerance, that is, the importance of tolerating the differences between themselves and other religions.

"Here, we have to be clear, that in religious tolerance, we (Muslims) can tolerate in terms of practising each other's religious beliefs. However, we cannot compromise on the truth of the Islamic religion, and firmly stand by our stance that Islam is the best religion," he said when discussing the book as a panelist here today.

Also on the panel for the discussion held in conjunction with the Books and Comics Auction 2017 were Senior Fellow of the IKIM Syariah Studies, Law and Politics Centre, Md Asham Ahmad, who is also the book's author.

Mohd Farid said differences and diversity of religion should not make Muslims pluralists, and the book justified the matter with basic and scientific evidence of the truth of the Islamic religion, the perfection of the Islamic Shari'a, the authority of messenger, the Prophet Muhammad SAW, and on how his teachings had been preserved till today.

Meanwhile, Md Asham hoped the publication of the book could improve Muslim understanding of the true position of Islam, as well as remove all doubts arising from misleading pluralist agendas.

NASDAQ REPORTS THIRD QUARTER 2017 RESULTS; DELIVERS STRONG PROFITABILITY AND INCOME GROWTH

- Net revenues1 were a record $607 million in the third quarter of 2017, an increase of 4% compared to the third quarter of 2016.  Subscription and recurring revenues, which includes revenues from our Corporate Services, Information Services and Market Technology segments, as well as our Trade Management Services business, increased 5% compared to prior year period and represented 76% of total net revenues in the third quarter of 2017.

- GAAP operating margin increased to 43% in the third quarter of 2017, up from 40% in the third quarter of 2016 while non-GAAP operating margin2 rose to 48% in the third quarter of 2017, up from 46% in the third quarter of 2016.

- Third quarter 2017 GAAP diluted EPS was $1.01, while non-GAAP diluted EPS was $1.06, both including a positive $0.04 per share impact from changes in share-based tax accounting.3  Compared to the third quarter of 2016, GAAP diluted EPS increased $0.24, or 31%, while non-GAAP diluted EPS increased $0.15, or 16%.

NEW YORK, Oct 24 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Annual worldwide corporate R&D spending broke through $700bn in annual investment, according to an annual analysis of R&D spending across 1000 global public companies by PwC’s Strategy&.

It shows corporate R&D spending increased a steady 3% in the past year, bouncing back from less than 1% increase previously.

However, in a global survey with 562 executive participants, R&D leaders expressed concerns about the growing heat of rhetoric about economic nationalism – and its potential impact on where companies invest in R&D how they conduct innovation.

Overall, 52% of respondents say that a general move toward economic nationalism will have a moderate or significant impact on their companies’ R&D efforts.

Major companies have been conducting some R&D outside their headquarters countries for decades. In 2015 it was determined that 94% of major corporations conduct their R&D in multiple countries.  But increasing attention on regulations and policies for visas, labor movement, and the regulations governing the sharing of knowledge and technology are causing some companies to question how sustainable their integrated global innovation networks are.

SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 (Bernama)--The Community Centre created by the Selangor State Economic Development Corporation (PKNS) at Kota Damansara has received very encouraging response from the local community.

The community centre named Pusat Komuniti 'Anjung PKNS' was officially launched by PKNS on Oct 21 as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme of the corporation to uplift the standard of education at the school level.

PKNS Corporate Communications manager Ishak Hashim said the corporation was giving an opportunity to the Semarak 1 Joint Management Body (JMB) to run the centre for two years.

"In order to achieve the smooth running of Anjung, PKNS has allocated RM100,000 to cover payments for the operations, utility, maintenance, school holiday programmes and social activities.

"The operation of the Anjung PKNS is divided into several sections such as tuition classes specified for several classes namely the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Pentaksiran Peperiksaan Tingkatan 3 (PT3), and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia as well as social activities," Ishak said in a media statement recently.

Beginning in July 2017, the first batch of 27 students had attended the tuition classes at the UPSR level and subsequently this was increased with the participation of students at the PT3 and SPM levels totalling 55 students with 14 teaching staff.
