The Mary Kay Foundation contributes over US$3 million in cancer research, domestic violence shelter grants

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 -- The Mary Kay Foundation(SM) recently awarded over US$3 million in cancer research and domestic violence shelter grants in the United States (US). (US$1 = RM4.17).

One hundred domestic violence shelters, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have been awarded US$20,000 each, totalling US$2 million.

The Mary Kay Foundation Research Review Committee has also awarded US$100,000 grants to 11 cancer research institutions across the US, totaling US$1.1 million.

“At The Mary Kay Foundation, we believe in helping women improve their circumstances and live their best lives,” said The Mary Kay Foundation Board of Directors president, Michael Lunceford.

“Our Foundation seeks to do that in two critical ways: fund breakthrough research in our mission to eliminate cancers affecting women and provide resources to domestic violence shelters across the country so they can aid survivors.”

The Foundation is committed to funding the life-saving work of women’s shelters, and the annual shelter grant programme has helped finance critical needs including emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling and legal aid.

Established in 1996 with the overarching purpose of eliminating cancers affecting women, The Foundation has expanded to include ending domestic violence as part of its mission, in 2000.
