1,000 STUDENTS FROM 16 HILIR PERAK SCHOOLS TAKE PART IN KLESF MINI WORKSHOP

TELUK INTAN, April 2 (Bernama) -- About 1,000 students from 16 schools in Hilir Perak are taking part in a two-day, Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair
Mini Workshop (KLESF Mobile Workshop), starting today.
    

The mini workshop, which was taken for the first time outside Kuala Lumpur was held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Perak here and opened by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.
    

In his speech, Mah lauded the programme and regarded it as a most meaningful investment for the local populace.

    According to him, science transformation was a game changing strategy in
generating new riches and high skilled jobs in the future because currently,
only 20 per cent of students were found to be keen in science, engineering,
technology and mathemetics.

    "The education ministry has targeted an increase in science students to 60
per cent while arts stream, 40 per cent, by 2020 but the aim has yet to be
achieved," he said.
