SMBCMY appoints new chairman
KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Bhd (SMBCMY) has appointed Tony Chin Kok Sang, 60, as chairman of its board of directors, effective May 15, 2018.
In a statement today, SMBCMY said Chin has replaced Datuk Md Agil Mohd Natt who retired on April 1, this year.
Chin has been an independent non-executive director (INED) of SMBCMY since Sept 18, 2015. During his tenure as INED, he has served as chairman of both the Board Audit Committee (BAC) and Board Nominations and Remuneration Committee (BNRC), as well as a member of the Board Risk Management Committee (BRMC).
Chin has over 30 years of experience in the banking and finance industry. He spent 14 years with Societe Generale (SG) Group at its offices in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. SG is an international banking group headquartered in Paris and listed on the Paris Stock Exchange.
Meanwhile, Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah, 52, was appointed as INED of SMBCMY effective April 1, 2018. He will assume the role of chairman of the BRMC while simultaneously serving as a member of the BAC and BNRC.
Wan Fadzmi has over 25 years of experience in the domestic and international banking industry, and has led key business units in London, New York and Hong Kong.
He was president/chief executive officer of Bank Pertanian (M) Bhd (Agrobank) from July 2011 to August 2017, and successfully transformed the bank from a conventional financial institution into a full-fledged Islamic one.
