ABUNDANT OPPORTUNITIES IN STEM FIELDS WITH RISE OF DIGITAL ECONOMY

MELAKA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- An abundance of business and career opportunities awaits the new generation of youth pursuing the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, according to a statement issued by Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM).

In efforts to encourage secondary and tertiary student to seize the opportunities available in the STEM education, TPM President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Mohd Azman Shahidin said the Malaysian society and domestic companies must adapt the latest science, technology and innovations (STI) in line with the rapid expansion of the global knowledge-based economy which is fast moving into the next level – the digital economy.

Azman said with the fast-pace evolution of technology, it remains important for Malaysians to keep abreast of new global STI developments.

“The rapid transformation of information and communication technology (ICT) has enabled global connectivity today to reach about 80 per cent, thus reducing the world to a global village.

“This has given rise to smart technologies with the development of Internet of Things (IoTs) for both the industrial and consumer segments. In addition, we now have to start preparing Malaysian businesses and entrepreneurs for the 4thIndustrial Revolution, better known as Industry 4.0. The latter will lead to the development of the digital economy in the near future,” he added.

As the premier technology incubation centre, TPM is hopeful of empowering technopreneurship among the students and communities at the two-day exhibition in Karnival Kreativiti & Sains 4U organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) starting tomorrow.

To empower the students and communities, TPM is showcasing a specially designed career development opportunities in STI during the Karnival Kreativiti & Sains 4U. It will also display its Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) career info-graphic which provides in-depth information on the career prospects and opportunities available in the fields of science, technology and innovation (STI).

In addition, TPM will also display an its range of services for the development and expansion of entrepreneurship and technopreneurship in the core industry clusters of biotechnology, advanced engineering, ICT and green technology.

For Malaysians to cope with the rapidly changing global economic transformation landscape, Azman said it remained pertinent for TPM to continuously encourage school children to develop an interest and better understanding on the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“TPM is committed to play its social community service role not only to the urbanites, but also to the rural folks and children. It is our hope that the Melaka communities, especially the youth and school children, will grab this opportunity to visit our booth to gain a better insight into the benefits of STI and the career prospects in the respective fields,” he advised.

The two-day MOSTI-organised Karnival Kreativiti &Sains4U exhibition will be held at Arena Petanque Hang Jebat, Pantai Kundur Kampung Gelam, Tanjung Kling Melaka, 12 & 13 August from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
