EXR STABLE ASSET OFFERS LIBRA ALTERNATIVE AND TRADE WAR PROTECTION

SINGAPORE, Sept 27 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With increasingly volatile trade relations and growing uncertainty in the global economy, and a digital asset industry subject to tough new regulatory measures, many economic thought leaders are calling for a more stable and resilient global currency to reduce the current over-reliance on the U.S Dollar.

The EXR Foundation’s recently announced stable-value digital asset, EXR, joins a shortlist of serious contenders that potentially fit this bill. It will be created alongside Bitcoin, Facebook’s Libra and also the Peoples’ Bank of China’s incoming stable asset for domestic use in China.

What will be the world’s first “global coin”?

Since its announcement, Facebook’s proposed Libra coin, an ambitious bridge between traditional and digital asset industries, has been vilified by authorities and traditional institutions concerned with the social media giant’s data track record, the potential further weakening of the U.S. Dollar, and other competitors inspired by Libra.

After their meeting with the U.S. Congress, it has become clear that Libra will face a very tough battle to win over regulatory bodies in the United States. Moreover, the digital currency chief of China’s central bank has said that Libra could challenge China’s monetary sovereignty and legal currency and that the government is currently developing its own stable asset in response. In fact, Facebook admitted in recent months that it is possible that the “Zuck Buck” might not ever make it to market at all.

On the other hand, Bitcoin, as a “self-made” store of value and one of the first popularized digital assets, is still severely curtailed by fundamental problems that it will likely never overcome.  Largely remaining unregulated and anonymous, with its short history tainted by illicit activities, Bitcoin raises many questions over its concentrated ownership distribution, vulnerability to price manipulation by a small pool of investors, limited scalability and intense price volatility. All this suggests that, as opposed to becoming a reputable global payments solution, Bitcoin may remain as a peripheral global asset class that is not likely to transcend its inherent limitations as merely a speculative investment tool.

It has been suggested that the People’s Bank of China’s rumored stable asset will be very different from existing digital assets and may simply represent digital cash to be used within China. Furthermore, any stable asset originating from China with designs on global deployment will likely also face significant backlash from the U.S. Government.

The EXR Foundation’s recently announced EXR digital asset appears to have taken the best lessons learned from Libra, Bitcoin and the history of the U.S. Dollar and Pound Sterling, to make for a strong contender to become a global stable currency.

The Reason for the Rise of EXR

For more than 150 years, the global economy has been ruled by two currencies: first the Pound Sterling, and next, the U.S. Dollar, whose hegemony after the World Wars has not been challenged since, thanks to the unchecked growing power of American banking dynasties.

Yet, there is growing evidence that the U.S Dollar’s  influence is waning, due to increasing economic and political pressure and a pending trade war partly brought about by  5G telecommunications.

While there are currently over 70 active stable assets on the market, most are pegged in some capacity to the US Dollar. The EXR Foundation feels that it an opportune time to establish a stablecoin that is not entirely dependent on the U.S. Dollar to derive its value.

What problems are solved by EXR?

Any stablecoin with global aspirations will have to overcome significant hurdles. This includes gaining trust from all stakeholders through full regulatory compliance, a transparent governance model, sufficient backing against real assets, competent security against cyber-attacks and the ability to function as a dependable store of value.  Other essential requirements include a strong degree of price stability and an open eco-system to attract increasing monetary and data inflow.

EXR aims to satisfy all the above requirements. By partnering with IBM and using their cutting-edge Hyperledger software, as well as being backed by some of the biggest and most powerful Asian businesses, the  EXR Foundation will seek to offer a safe-haven alternative for businesses that seek improved information security, easier cross-border trading, and better access to international markets. EXR is proposed to consist of a basket of leading fiat currencies, equal-weighted and collectively valued at USD1 per token at its date of inception.

Mr. Norihiko Ishihara, founder of EXR Foundation Ltd, had the following to say:

“EXR Foundation is a non-profit organization that brings world-class businesses and dynamic and growing industries such as blockchain, telecoms, e-commerce, retail and finance together to strengthen the global economy.  I strongly believe that EXR will provide trusted, diversified stability against negative global events that negatively impact individual fiat currencies”

About EXR Foundation

The EXR Foundation is a global Fintech group registered in Singapore. The non-profit company will be committed to applying the latest blockchain technology and sophisticated digital asset ecosystems in order to build a better global financial system. By leveraging its unique insights, network and access to capital, EXR Foundation will actively build, support and invest in companies with exceptional potential.

Global businesses ready for fast data access to Australia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 -- International businesses are preparing themselves for the fastest data transmission speeds to Australia's east coast, next year.

This follows an opening of the international submarine cable landing station on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson, together with Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk and Queensland Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Cameron Dick marked the completion of this US$7.2 million facility. (US$1 = RM4.19)

Regtech cost to grow 400 per cent by 2024 - Juniper Research

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 -- The value of regtech spending is forecasted to exceed US$127 billion by 2024, up from US$25 billion this year, according to new data from Juniper Research. (US$1 = RM4.18)

This 400 per cent growth will be driven by a dramatic rise in the automation of resource-intensive tasks, such as those involved in Know Your Customer (KYC) checks and increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in transaction monitoring.

According to the research titled, ‘Regtech: Cost Savings, Technological Impact & Vendor Analysis 2019-2024’, AI is ideally suited to regulatory space, as it can dynamically reduce false positive and false negative rates.

It can lead to significant time, resource and ultimately cost savings for compliance monitoring processes.

The combined cost savings for KYC checks for banking and property sales will be almost US$1 billion by 2024; a growth of 690 per cent. The impetus for this will be efficiency savings, as well as the enhanced user experience that can be implemented in customer onboarding.

This will reduce user frustration by improving response times and increasing overall user satisfaction.

The report recommends that organisations invest in the cost-saving potential of AI and cautions that although AI has vast potential, its use must be in line with overall business objectives or deployments will invariably fail to meet expectations.

83 per cent global consumers believe brands can bring stability - study

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 -- Eighty-three per cent of global survey respondents believe brands can play an even greater role in providing stability, while 74 per cent expect brands to take a stand on important issues.

According to WE Communications’ Brands in Motion 2019 global study, the data uncovered a growing expectation and clear opportunity for brands to bring greater stability.

The study has surveyed nearly 80,000 consumers and B2B decision-makers to understand the impact of market forces and quantify how perception shifts are impacted by them over time.

Three main themes exposed in this year’s study are consumer uprising, technology expectations and accountability, as well as the new brand royalty, according to a statement.

With greater choice and knowledge at their fingertips, consumers are more empowered than ever to make demands of brands. The study also delved deeper into consumer expectations when it comes to technology.

The ethics of technology remains front and centre with 97 per cent agreeing that companies are responsible for using technology ethically, while 92 per cent said they would stop using a product or service if it was using consumer data unethically.

In addition, brands must rethink the underlying drivers of loyalty and affinity for their brand to address consumer demands by leading with purpose, building new levels of trust and respect with customers and creating meaningful impact in the way they operate.

BearingPoint earns FinTech & RegTech Global Award 2019 in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- BearingPoint RegTech has bagged the FinTech & RegTech Global Award 2019 in the ‘Distributed Ledger Technology Provider of the Year’ category.

BearingPoint has convinced the award jury with proof of concept (PoC) of a blockchain-based and thus innovative and cost-effective approach to face the growing complexity of regulatory reporting.

With its PoC, BearingPoint has shown that the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) - also known as blockchain - can reduce the regulatory effort.

The award was received by RegTech DLT manager and head, Moritz Plenk during the Central Banking FinTech & RegTech Global Summit in Singapore recently.

Plenk said: “When two banks submit a transaction report through a DLT-based network, these two transaction partners always have identical and reportable data on their so-called ledgers.

“The third actor in the DLT network, the regulator, can view and extract the data from the two ledgers in real time. Inconsistent transaction data can be avoided, and the efficiency of transaction-based reporting can be increased.”

With the award, Central Banking recognises relevant players among central banks, supervisory authorities and technology as well as consulting companies, for their outstanding achievements and successes.

BearingPoint RegTech is a business unit of management and technology consultancy, BearingPoint. More details at https://www.reg.tech/en/

Republic of Marshall Islands announces Timed Release Monetary Issuance of blockchain-based currency

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 -- The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is moving ahead with its blockchain-based national currency, the Marshallese sovereign (SOV).

Announced at the Invest: Asia cryptocurrency conference in Singapore, the sovereign will be introduced in a highly visible way before circulation in the Marshall Islands is initiated, according to a statement.

Specifically, the currency will be introduced through a sale over an extended period of time in a Timed Release Monetary Issuance (TRMI). The units sold during this introductory period are intended to be exchanged for the Marshallese sovereign, once it is officially launched.

The TRMI units are to be released continuously in equal daily allotments, via auctions.

The bulk of the proceeds will be placed in trust funds focused on key challenges for the Marshall Islands, such as combating climate change and mitigating the ongoing health crisis caused by nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll.

The RMI currently uses the United States dollar as its currency, and the dollar will continue to circulate in the islands once the SOV is launched, but the Marshallese sovereign will be the RMI’s official legal tender.

In addition to algorithmically fixing the supply growth of SOV, newly-created SOV will be sent automatically to eligible SOV holders, including all Marshallese citizens, who will also receive an equal split of 10 per cent of the initial currency supply.

Interested parties can pre-register for the TRMI at the website of the SOV Development Foundation at https://sov.foundation.

AM Best gives Vietnam's BIDV Insurance Corporation good rating

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 -- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of B++ (good) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of ‘bbb’ of BIDV Insurance Corporation (BIC) Vietnam.

The outlook of these credit ratings is stable. It reflects the company’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best categorised as strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

The ratings factor in a neutral impact from the company’s ultimate majority ownership by the Vietnam Government, according to a statement.

Despite BIC’s moderate dividend payout ratio over the past three years, retained earnings have remained sufficient to bolster shareholders’ equity and support business growth.

Other balance sheet considerations include the company’s reliance on third-party reinsurance to increase underwriting capacity for large property and engineering risks, as well as to manage accumulation risks and catastrophe exposure.

AM Best views the company’s operating performance as adequate, as evidenced by a five-year average return-on-equity ratio of 7.7 per cent (2014 to 2018).

AM Best is a global rating agency and information provider with unique focus on the insurance industry. More information at www.ambest.com.

OMRON announces global release of CP2E Series controller

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 -- OMRON Corporation, a global leader in the field of automation has announced the global release in October of its new CP2E Series all-in-one controller that provides advanced control and IoT connectivity for compact machines.

The performance of IoT-connected machines can be visualised through simple programming, helping improve productivity and quality of machines used in manufacturing and other industries.

As a result of rising labour costs and shortage of skilled workers, manufacturers increasingly need to streamline the process of production ranging from machine setup to operation and maintenance.

In order to leverage machine data, the CP2E Series collects machine performance data and shares the necessary information with the host network, according to a statement.

The pre-defined programme data, or a function block, allows virtually anyone to set up machines that perform complex control, reducing the time required for programming, test, debugging and maintenance.
